There’s No Place Like Home
My watercolour, A Splash of Seals, 8×10 in on paper, is included in this exhibit where members of the Saanich Peninsula Arts and Crafts Society (SPAC) display their interpretations of this place we call home, Vancouver Island. It’s on display until November 30, 2025 at the Mary Winspear Centre in Sidney, BC, in their main lobby display case. The Mary Winspear Box Office at the entrance handles the sales, Monday to Friday, 9:30am to 5:00pm, except lunch hour 12pm-1:00pm.
The painting is inspired by this photo of a group of seals, which I took at Race Rocks Ecological Reserve, when we visited by boat. Right from the start, I imagined the seals in a rainbow of colours. I’ve also painted a card sized version in 5×7, which sold at the SPAC Spring Art Show 2025.

I’m Anke Weber. Welcome to Tiny Star Studio.
I paint in acrylic, watercolour and gouache but I’m endlessly curious about new media and techniques. I live on the beautiful West of Canada and I love to be out and about with my camera. Sometimes my photography is inspiration for my paintings, sometimes it’s just for fun and sometimes it stands on its own.I’m also the Co-Editor for Close-Up Digital, the online magazine for the Victoria Camera Club.
