Hi, I’m Anke
I’m a painter and photographer living on the beautiful West Coast of Canada where I create with gratitude on the traditional territories of the W̱SÁNEĆ people. I enjoy telling stories with words and images and I hope you can find some shared interest in this journey.

SPAC Point of View Challenge, on display April 1–May 30, 2025
at the Mary Winspear Centre in Sidney, BC, Canada
Each fall, the Sidney Camera Club sponsors a competition for their members. From the member-submitted photographs, the Camera Club votes for the top ten qualifiers which are then presented to SPAC members who, in turn, vote for one winning image. SPAC members use the winning photo as inspiration to create their own interpretation of the subject in their chosen medium: painting, pottery, woodworks, fabric, glass, etc.

Photography
I’m not just taking photos of wildlife but all animals, people, and places. I also enjoy abstracts and editing creatively or for collages with my paintings.
I use my art and photography to illustrate my articles. While a picture can tell a thousand words, I enjoy creating a whole storyline.

Three Ferns
Three Ferns is made with prints of real fern leaves from the woodland area of my garden. I covered the leaves with acrylic paint and printed them on canvas. I added more paint and colour for a sense of depth and beauty and finished with some colour splashes and gold accents. The colours are usually not my first choice, but…

Owl Spirit in the Woods
In spring, one of our resident Barred Owls decided to rest in a tree close to our yard. It was a beautiful sunny day, but windy. The play of light…
